On October 1, 2011 Dr. Bart D. Ehrman and CSNTM's Executive Director, Dr. Daniel B. Wallace, debated the reliability of the text of the New Testament at Southern Methodist University. This was the largest debate over the text of the New Testament in history. A professional film crew recorded the debate, which is now available to you. In this exciting dialogue you have the opportunity to listen to two leading scholars talk about this issue from opposing viewpoints. Can we trust the text of the New Testament? You decide.

Four New Manuscript Discoveries on My First Trip Abroad PDF Print E-mail

One of six cliff-top monestaries in Meteora, Greece.

For the last two weeks of May, CSNTM’s Executive Director Dr. Daniel B. Wallace led a four-man team to Greece to photograph eight New Testament manuscripts at the Byzantine and Christian Museum (BXM) in Athens.

We had a stellar team. J. D. Lemming, a former CSNTM intern and seasoned expedition-vet, added some timely experience to the shoot. Paul Wheatley, another former intern of Dr. Wallace, also came with us. Because he and his wife lived in Athens from 2007 to 2009, he is fluent in modern Greek, is well versed when it comes to Athenian culture, got the four-man team cheap lodging, and knows all the great spots to get gyros. Having Paul with us was insightful and very important in terms of solidifying vital contacts for future expeditions, not just in Athens, but all across Greece. The expedition was undoubtedly significant for CSNTM in many respects, but for me it was the experience of a lifetime. This was my first time abroad and the first time to see the mission of CSNTM in action.

Great News from CSNTM's Executive Director, Dr. Daniel B. Wallace PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends of CSNTM,

I want to thank you for your investment in The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscriptsyour interest, prayers, and donations that help us in our strategic and vital mission to preserve the New Testament manuscripts. I am writing to you because of some wonderful newsnews that I cannot fully describe because of negotiations that are still ongoing.

In the next 12 months, CSNTM hopes to send out teams to as many as eight different sites to photograph New Testament manuscrripts. These sites are in Europe, the Middle East, and America. A few of these sites have opened up quite unexpectedly in just the last few weeks. Some of the manuscripts have never been microfilmed, and are not yet known to New Testament scholars in general. Over 125 manuscripts with more than 60,000 pages of text are on the docket. This is more than a third of all the manuscripts that CSNTM has photographed to date!

Increasingly, we are living in uncertain, tumultuous times. And one of those uncertainties is how long this door of opportunity will remain open to us. In order for CSNTM to accomplish its mission with these sites over the next year, we need to receive $252,700 in donations. This amounts to only about $4 to photograph each page of textquite a bargain when you realize what we are shooting! For those who have not yet contributed financially to CSNTM, I want to ask you to consider doing so. Unlike most investments, this is a sure bet, because it's an investment in the preservation of God's Word.

The global economy has been facing instability for over two years now. It's hurting everyone's pocketbooks. We know that few friends of CSNTM have deep pockets, but we also believe that many of you can probably make a small monthly commitment of $25, $50 or even $100. The Circle of Friends was created for just such faithful partners in our mission. The Circle of Friends is the real financial backbone of our mission. Without you, CSNTM could not exist.

We are looking for new friends who will commit, over the next 12 months, the following:

350 Friends: $25 a month
150 Friends: $50 a month
100 Friends: $100 a month

With Friends like these, we can capitalize on these awesome opportunities. Please consider joining the Circle of Friends today. You'll be making an investment in eternity.

CSNTM Teams-up with Accordance Bible Software PDF Print E-mail

Over the last ten years or so, digital resources for biblical scholarship have seen incredible advancments. With better digital research capability, better data storage, faster computers, and the Internet, the possibilities for the future seem virtually endless. In the year of 2010 these resources took incredible steps forward and the years to come look even more promising. Many collaborative efforts in this area by organizations like CSNTM, major biblical publishers, and Bible software developers are bringing the world of biblical scholarship better, more accurate, and more time-effective tools for biblical research.

One of these collaborative efforts was unveiled at the Society of Biblical Literature’s (SBL) Annual Meeting. This year the meeting was held in Atlanta, Georgia. SBL’s Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of biblical scholars in the entire world. Each year scholars from differing backgrounds of religion, ethics, philosophy and more converge on one central location to advance the very latest in biblical studies. The meeting is also one of the world’s largest arenas to showcase new books and digital resources for biblical research.

Of the digital resources that are annually showcased at SBL, one of them certainly tops the list for scholar-Mac users – Accordance Bible Software. This year in Atlanta, Accordance released several new upgrades for their software. Among them is a collection of five new modules that integrate high-resolution digital images of major New Testament manuscripts shot by CSNTM. The modules include over 1300 images of codex facsimiles from Alexandrinus, Sinaiticus, Vaticanus, Wahingtonensis and the original of Codex 2882.

These images can now be added straight into Accordance software, are fully indexed, and have the ability to be compared side by side within a workspace. The modules are also locally stored right on your very own computer.

So whether you are an advanced textual-critic, just barley starting out, or just want some really cool high-resolution images of ancient New Testament manuscripts localized on your very own computer, CSNTM and Accordance have teamed-up to bring ancient and digital worlds together at the touch of a button. The NT MSS Image Collection costs 179.00 and is a great addition to your Accordance library. For more information on Accordance Bible Software, please visit their website at: http://www.accordancebible.com/
